John M. McCarthy Bio
John M. McCarthy is the Principal of Wright Street Hospitality LLC, (WSH) a specialized asset management firm dedicated to value optimization for real estate investors. John’s career in hotel operations and hospitality investment spans nearly four decades and he is intimately familiar with the many issues facing hospitality business owners. His extensive background allows him to quickly and effectively assess and implement best practices in all facets of hospitality management including strategic planning, revenue management, overall profitability and disciplined capital allocation. Currently, John is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of development projects in Saratoga Springs, NY. John is also routinely engaged by the insurance industry to provide restoration and recovery expertise in the aftermath of catastrophic events, both domestic and international, that cause extensive damage to hotels, resorts and other hospitality investments.
Prior to starting Wright Street Hospitality, John was President of Liberty Hospitality Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Liberty Mutual. While at Liberty, he managed Liberty’s investment in Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa, an award winning Florida resort. He has participated in numerous real estate transactions including a large portfolio of Resolution Trust Corporation assets. He also managed a large portfolio of Residence Inn by Marriott (RIBM) hotel assets demonstrating his ability to optimize investor returns through sales and service excellence while controlling margins.
John gained valuable hands-on experience as an hourly employee throughout his high school and college years, working weekends, after school and during summer months in the hotel and hospitality industry in Saratoga Springs, NY. Soon after graduating from college he completed Marriott’s Management Training Program which led to management positions in pre-opening operations, sales and marketing, food and beverage, general management and regional management for resorts, full service and extended stay hotels. He is a former board member and Chairman of the National System Marketing Fund Committee for RIBM. He has served on the board of the Hospitality Asset Managers Association (HAMA) which is the only lodging industry organization focused solely on asset management. John also served on the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Resort and Hospitality Management Advisory Board. John is a published author and has frequently spoken at numerous industry events including the Americas Lodging Investment Summit, Hospitality Design Expo, and Hotel Investment Conference. He is a graduate of Ithaca College and resides in Franklin, MA with Lynda, his wife of 36 years.
