AFA and Orlando Citizens Corps Team Up!

Orlando, Florida: In an effort to provide the AFA network the opportunity to better understand how each of us can make our communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to disasters of all kinds, ATHLETES FOR AMERICA has TEAMED UP with Orlando Citizen Corps.

“I am proud to announce that AFA has become affiliated with the Orlando Citizen Corps family. Hopefully, this pilot program will lead to AFA teaming up with Citizen Corps Councils all across America where AFA Athletes can get proper training in emergency preparedness and motivate local citizens to do the same. With AFA’s goal of becoming the largest contributor in America to homeland security awareness and preparedness, it is an important step for AFA to join forces with the wonderful individuals that administer and teach these many preparedness programs for Orlando Citizen Corps” said AFA Founder Billy McGehee.

Citizen Corps offers many different educational and training programs such as CERT, Community Emergency Response Team training which educates residents about disaster preparedness, basic disaster response skills, and disaster medical operations. Citizen Corps also offers programs such as Fire Corps, Medical Reserve Corps, Neighborhood Watch Program and Volunteers in Police Service, just to name a few. These free programs offer individuals interested in learning how to be better prepared for all emergency situations an opportunity to get properly trained in their local community.

Jill Meyer, Coordinator of Orlando Citizen Corps said, “Orlando Citizen Corps is excited to partner with AFA to help share information with residents in Central Florida on how they can take personal steps to be better prepared for emergency situations. Our hope is that this partnership will result in more citizens learning about and taking advantage of the many training and volunteer opportunities available though Citizen Corps to make our community safer.”
